18th and Vine - Jazz District
Birthplace of Kansas City-style jazz.
18th and Vine, also known as the Jazz District, is located near the heart of Kansas City’s Central Business District. Historically, 18th and Vine was the heart of Kansas City’s African-American community; today it's home to the American Jazz Museum and Blue Room jazz club, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, The Peach Tree Restaurant and Gem Theater Cultural and Performing Arts Center.
When complete in 2007, the Jazz District redevelopment will include 203 residential units and 50,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. The Jazz District Redevelopment Corporation (JDRC) is actively recruiting entrepreneurs and business owners to bring restaurants, jazz clubs and neighborhood-serving retail shops to 18th and Vine.
